The Association for Responsible Gun Ownership

Our mission is to support responsible gun ownership and oppose those organizations (NRA) and gun manufacturers that promote and profit from gun violence and gun deaths.

Lives Matter

TARGO’s goal is to prevent the excessive and needless gun violence in our nation and supports efforts, by all means necessary, including through lobbying and litigation to adopt reasonable and responsible gun ownership guidelines and laws. We believe that the war against gun violence must be fought through not only the legislative system but also the political and judicial systems. Our aim is to hold the gun lobby (NRA), gun industry, and gun manufacturers accountable for the death, destruction and fear that their greed and misguided policies have brought to bear causing hundreds of thousands of human deaths over the past decades. We believe in partnering and promoting other gun reform organizations in collective efforts for common sense gun regulations. Through TARGO’s memberships and donations, gun litigation and political battles will be initiated to fight and oppose the gun lobby and gun manufacturing industry.

We support the 2nd Amendment

TARGO supports the Second Amendment of the constitution, but the Second Amendment does not explicitly address the reasonable obligation to ensure that arms are borne without the intent to harm the innocent. We feel that it is our inherent responsibility to future generations to address the epidemic of gun violence with reasonable laws and restrictions in order for all humans to achieve the American goal of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the United States of America.

TARGO Issues

Confiscating guns is not a requirement to save lives. We can save lives through common-sense gun reform without infringing on the right to bear arms. TARGO focuses on simple, common-sense gun regulations that can be realistically implemented into today’s polarized society.

Repeal PLCAA

If there was a product at the grocery store that killed 100 Americans a day, that item would immediately be recalled, and the manufacturer would be held liable. The same laws should apply to the gun industry.

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act is a United States law which protects firearms manufacturers and dealers from being held liable when crimes have been committed with their products.

Universal Background Checks

Because “Please make sure the person buying your gun is not a felon, domestic abuser, mentally ill or a terrorist.” is really not too much to ask.

Proposals for universal background checks would require almost all firearms transactions to be recorded and go through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), closing what is sometimes called the private sale exemption.

Assault Weapons Ban

You can’t buy a flame thrower or a hand grenade for a reason. No weapon that was designed for the sole purpose to cause the most death in the shortest amount of time should be available to the public.

An Assault Weapons Ban would make it a crime to knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) or large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD).
